LICENCE PLATES 

Regular Plates: The fee for obtaining a new licence plate for any vehicle is $20.00 

Personalized plates [vanity, Own Choice Plates (OCP)]:  

Graphic and personalized plates can be ordered by visiting your local Vehicle Licence  Issuing Office 

The following one-time fees apply to all plates. 

 
Regular series graphic plates                                                                      $52.10

Add a graphic to an existing personalized plate                                            $52.10 
Add a graphic to an existing regular plate                                                    $52.10 
Create a new personalized plate with 2 to 8 characters                                 $212.60

Convert a regular series plate to a personalized plate                                   $212.60

VALIDATIONS (STICKERS) 

The validation of the plate must be renewed on or before the staggered date. For most individuals the staggered date is the Birthday. The sticker expires at midnight of the birthday, no the last day of the month. 

All plates must be renewed for no less than 3 months. For passenger plates the monthly fee is payable even for one day additional to whole months. For commercial plates rules see Commercial Vehicles 

Passenger Vehicles - Trailers - Commercial vehicles with no more than 3000 kilograms registered gross weight: 

1- The plate is owned by a person who lives anywhere in Ontario except Northern Ontario: $74.00 per year or part of a year

2- The Licence Plate is owned by a person who lives in Northern Ontario: $37.00 per year or part of a year

If the plate is not currently validated you must pay full yearly fee to do the renewal. Passenger vehicles cannot be renewed for less than one full year.     

Motorcycles:  

1- The plate is owned by a person who lives anywhere in Ontario except Northern Ontario:  $42.00 per year or part of a year

2- The Licence Plate is owned by a person who lives in Northern Ontario: $21.00 per year or part of a year

Historic Plate: $18.00 per year or part of a year

Motor assisted bicycle (Mopped) $12.00 per year or part of a year 

Car Dealer Plate: $156.00 per year or part of a year

Motorcycle Dealer plate: $87.00 per year or part of a year

Snowmobiles: $15.00 per year or part of a year

Buses: $66.00 per year or part of a year PLUS fee per number of seats  

School Buses: $66.00 per year or part of a year PLUS fee per number of seats 

Commercial Vehicles over 3000 kg. RAW: Licence fees depend on the Registered Gross Weight. Commercial vehicles may be renewed for a minimum of 3 months. Any commercial plate renewed before the 21st of the month must pay the fee for the whole month. Fees may be obtained from Licensing Assistance of the Ministry of Transportation at 416 235 2999

Northern Ontario Those locations in or north of the Regional Municipalities of Parry Sound and Nipissing, and the areas north of Pembrooke in the Regional Municipality of Renfrew as well as the Regional Municipality of Muskoka are considered as Northern Ontario and are subject to lower vehicle licensing fees than the rest of the Province.
