1 - Replacement of  Plates 

A lost or stolen licence plate or a plate which number  you don't like, may be replaced at any time at your local Licence Office 

 Documents Required: 

      • Application -  Requires the identification (R.I.N.) of owner
      • Registration (Ownership) of both:  The vehicle and the plates to be replaced.

The plates must be returned to the Ministry of Transportation. 

If one plate is missing plate and it is not the validated plate, In order to obtain credit for the validation sticker it is necessary to return the validated plate. 

OR 

If the missing plate is the validated plate, In order to obtain credit for the validation  sticker it is necessary to return the no validated plate along with a police report filled out with and signed by the constable on duty at any police station. 
 

         Fees: 
 

Replacement of Licence Plates            $   20.00  Plus validation if required 
 

2 -  Replacement of  Permits 

General Information: The document that confirms the proprietorship of your vehicle is the Vehicle Permit (also known as Vehicle Registration or Ownership) In Ontario this document is composed by two sections: The Vehicle Portion and the Plate Portion.  

The two sections look similar and some information is common to both sections but in fact they contain some different information.  

 Information on Vehicle Portion :  

Type of Vehicle: Passenger, Commercial, Motorcycle 
Status of the Vehicle: Fit or Unfit (UNF)  
Licence Status: Plated or Unplated  
V.I.N. ( Serial No.) of the Vehicle  
R.I.N. ( Identification - Driver's Licence ) of the Registered Owner of the Vehicle  
Number of the Safety Standard Certificate used to transfer the vehicle Fit  
Name and Address of the registered owner of the vehicle  
Note:  If the plate is unattached, the vehicle portion will not contain any information 

Information on Plate Portion :  

Type of Vehicle: Passenger, Commercial, Motorcycle 
Status of the Vehicle: Fit or Unfit (unf 
Licence Status: Plated or Unplated  
V.I.N. ( Serial No.) of the Vehicle  
R.I.N. ( Identification - Driver's Licence ) of the Registered Owner of the Vehicle  
Number of the validation tag ( sticker ) *  
Date of expiration of the validation at the time of issuing of the Permit *  
Name and Address of the owner of the Plate  
* After the expiration of the first validation, this information appears on the sticker  
affixed to the back of the plate portion.  

Note: If the vehicle is unplated the plate portion will not contain any information  

The plate portion normally contains the same name of the vehicle portion except in the case of  a vehicle leased.  In this case the owner of the plate ( Lessee ) is different to the owner of the vehicle ( Lessor )  

A lost or misplaced Vehicle Permit may be replaced at any time at your local Licence Office 
 

 A Vehicle Permit can be issued or replaced only to the owner of the vehicle. Personal ID is required. 

Any other person applying for the Vehicle Permit must present a written authorization signed by the registered owner.

3 - Replacement of  Stickers 

A lost or misplaced Validation Sticker  may be replaced at any time at your 
local Licence Office

      • Vehicle registration  (permit)

Fees:
